ABOUT FERMANAGH BEEKEEPERS

FBKA aims to provide a forum for all Beekeepers in the district whereby lectures, discussions and practical demonstration can be provided so that greater enjoyment can be derived from the craft of beekeeping; to encourage others to take up the craft of beekeeping and to provide advice and assistance where required.

Fermanagh Beekeepers Association aims to promote reconciliation and social inclusion as a cross community group which seeks to include in its membership all those who wish to develop beekeeping skills, irrespective of race, gender, religion, political affiliation, age, disability or social status. The Association shall at all times seek to provide equal opportunities among all its members.

The aims of the Association are the improvement and advancement of beekeeping being achieved through a number of primary goals:-

  • stressing the importance of using bees proven to be suited to local conditions;

  • discouraging the import of bees from outside the island of Ireland to help prevent the spread of exotic bee diseases and pests; N.B. You must notify the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) if you decide to import honeybees into Northern Ireland;

  • educating beekeepers and newcomers to the beekeeping craft and promoting Health and Safety awareness in the handling of bees and the production of bee products;

  • creating an awareness of bees in non-beekeepers through meetings,

  • demonstrations and displays and communication in the local press;

  • providing a neutral forum for beekeepers designed to encourage friendship, trust and mutual support

  • environmental improvement;

  • local studies and research into bee disease diagnosis, for members and non-members, through education and the co-ordination of treatment;
